Career Growth Hospitality Recruitment is seeking a knowledgeable and service-driven Sommelier for a luxury hotel in Cape Town.
This opportunity would suit a polished hospitality professional with a passion for wine, excellent guest engagement skills and the ability to deliver personalised wine recommendations and memorable food and wine pairing experiences.
The successful candidate will oversee the hotel’s wine offering, maintain effective stock controls and support the Food & Beverage team through training, product knowledge and exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities

Provide personalised wine recommendations and food and wine pairings.

Deliver attentive, professional wine and beverage service.

Manage the wine dispensary, stock levels, requisitions, storage and preservation.

Maintain an updated wine list in consultation with Food & Beverage management.

Work closely with the culinary team to develop wine pairings for menu updates.

Build relationships with wine suppliers and coordinate training and promotions.

Develop and deliver wine training for the Food & Beverage team.

Monitor wine quality, including opened wines, and manage wine preservation and Coravin systems.

Support wine sales, revenue growth, budgeting and sales mix reporting.

Ensure accurate billing, sound financial controls and compliance with hygiene and service standards.

Assist with restaurant operations when required.
Requirements

Previous experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward or in a similar role.

A Cape Wine Academy certificate, WSET Level 2 or certification in related studies is essential.

Extensive knowledge of Southern African wines and vineyards, supported by sound international wine knowledge.

Demonstrated ability to create complementary food and wine pairings.

Strong understanding of restaurant service and operations.

Excellent communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English.

Computer literacy and commercial awareness.
