An exceptional luxury hotel in Cape Town is looking for an experienced and energetic Learning & Development Manager to join its People & Culture team.
This is a hands-on, operational role for someone who is passionate about developing people, strengthening service standards and creating meaningful learning experiences. Working closely with departmental leaders and trainers, you will ensure that learning and development remains relevant, practical and visible throughout the hotel.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver operational training across all hotel departments
- Lead the Hotel Training Committee and support Departmental Trainers
- Coach, guide and mentor trainers and operational leaders
- Monitor on-the-job training and ensure that training checklists are consistently completed
- Spend time in the operation to observe service delivery and identify training needs
- Review guest feedback and audit results, developing training plans where required
- Facilitate induction, onboarding, Train the Trainer and other company programmes
- Personally welcome new employees and monitor their onboarding experience
- Create and maintain a monthly hotel training calendar
- Conduct regular training needs analyses across all departments
- Maintain individual training plans for hotel positions
- Present quarterly learning and development plans to the leadership team
- Identify employees with potential and support their development and career progression
- Assist with succession planning across all departments
- Coordinate hotel school placements, internships, learnerships and youth-development programmes
- Prepare the Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report
- Manage CATHSSETA mandatory grant applications and related programmes
- Maintain accurate training attendance records and supporting documentation
- Assist with Employment Equity, employee engagement and BBBEE initiatives
- Participate in the development and management of the training budget
- Support health, safety and sustainability programmes within the hotel
Requirements
- A relevant hospitality or learning and development qualification would be advantageous
- At least three years’ operational experience within the hospitality industry
- Previous leadership experience would be a strong advantage
- Proven training, coaching and facilitation skills
- Experience with CATHSSETA reporting, Workplace Skills Plans and Annual Training Reports
- A practical understanding of learnerships, skills programmes and mandatory grants
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational and administrative ability
- The confidence to engage with and influence employees and leaders at all levels
- A proactive, disciplined and innovative approach
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team
- A genuine passion for developing people and improving the guest experience
