An established luxury hospitality and lifestyle environment in Stellenbosch is looking for a positive, approachable and hands-on HR & Payroll Generalist to join its team.
This is a mid-level position suited to someone with solid HR administration and payroll experience who enjoys working with people and can confidently manage detailed administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will support both employees and managers while ensuring that HR processes, payroll and statutory requirements are handled accurately and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage fortnightly and monthly payroll cycles, including new appointments, terminations, promotions, overtime, tips, commission, allowances, deductions and leave.
- Review and verify payroll information, process approved changes and ensure payroll deadlines are met.
- Maintain accurate employee information across SAGE 300, ESS and related HR systems.
- Process and reconcile payroll, pension and provident fund contributions, payroll journals, control accounts and banking files.
- Prepare statutory submissions, including EMP201, EMP501, UIF and COIDA documentation.
- Manage tax directives, UIF declarations and employee UIF claim documentation.
- Respond to employee payroll queries and assist managers with salary calculations, overtime, rates and BCEA-related payments.
- Manage the full recruitment process, including advertising, screening, shortlisting, interviews, references, background checks and offers.
- Coordinate onboarding, induction, employee documentation and probation processes.
- Recruit and coordinate interns, students and learnership participants when required.
- Provide HR support to managers on disciplinary matters, incapacity, performance management and employee relations.
- Prepare warnings, agreements, promotion letters and other HR documentation.
- Manage employee terminations, medical certificates, maternity-related documentation and injury-on-duty administration.
- Coordinate performance reviews, training needs, employee development and qualification audits.
- Assist with Workplace Skills Plans, Annual Training Reports, Employment Equity reporting and other statutory HR requirements.
- Maintain accurate employee records, training information and personnel documentation.
- Support employee wellness, engagement, recognition and internal communication initiatives.
- Prepare HR and payroll reports and assist with annual audits and payroll-related queries.
- Liaise professionally with employees, managers, service providers, recruitment agencies, SARS, UIF, fund administrators and auditors.
- Provide general administrative support to the HR department and assist with HR projects when required.
Minimum Requirements
- At least two years’ relevant experience in HR administration, payroll or a generalist HR role.
- Solid practical experience in both HR administration and payroll processing.
- Previous experience managing or supporting a complete payroll cycle.
- SAGE 300 experience is essential.
- Good understanding of South African labour legislation, the BCEA, PAYE, UIF and COIDA.
- Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- A valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
- Willing and positive about working on-site every day.
- Able to understand and communicate effectively in both English and Afrikaans.
- A positive, bubbly and approachable personality with strong people skills.
Advantageous
- A relevant HR, Industrial Psychology or Business Management qualification, either completed or currently in progress.
- Payroll training or qualification.
- Skills Development Facilitator certification.
- Experience using ESS and Pastel Evolution.
- Previous hospitality or service-industry experience.
