A world-class boutique hotel in Cape Town is seeking a refined and passionate Assistant Sommelier. This role is ideal for a polished hospitality professional who thrives in a sophisticated environment and is inspired by South Africa’s finest wines, curated pairings and memorable guest experiences.
What You’ll Do

Support the restaurant team in delivering elevated, personalised wine service

Present and recommend wines with confidence, accuracy and a guest-focused approach

Assist with wine pairings for tasting menus and special dining experiences

Manage wine preparation, bottle service, decanting and correct glassware usage

Maintain cellar organisation, stock rotation and inventory standards

Participate in wine tastings, supplier sessions and ongoing staff wine training

Assist in curating guest experiences that highlight premium local and international wines

Ensure service delivery aligns with luxury hospitality expectations
What You’ll Need

Strong wine knowledge and passion for South African wine regions

Formal wine training or enrolment in WSET, Cape Wine Academy or equivalent advantageous

Previous experience in fine dining, luxury hotels or premium wine environments

Confident communication and polished guest engagement skills

Ability to work service shifts, including evenings and weekends

High attention to detail, strong presentation and a calm, professional presence
